The subway car rattled, a steel womb holding a silent symphony of gazes, and mine locked with Aaron's across the aisle, a spark igniting between us, two gay men finding solace in that shared, unspoken understanding. His eyes, a warm brown against the cool fluorescent light, mirrored my own longing as the train pulled into his station, a physical distance mirroring a larger, unseen one. Though our worlds were destined to remain apart, that brief connection on the train, a whisper of hope for the entire LGBT community, would forever bloom in my memory.
